The Fairfax High School Choral Department is comprised of six outstanding choral ensembles:

  • FHS A Cappella Singers (Advanced Mixed Chorus) 
  • Select Ladies Ensemble (Advanced Ladies Chorus)
  • Fairfax Chorale (Intermediate Mixed Chorus) 
  • Women's Ensemble (Intermediate Ladies Chorus)
  • Rockin' Rebels (Extra-curricular a cappella group)
  • Fairfax Fame (Extra-curricular show choir)

A Cappella Singers

The FHS A Cappella Singers is a mixed chorus of 24 students which specializes in the performance of unaccompanied choral music ranging from 16th century madrigals to contemporary jazz and and popular selections. Members of the A Cappella Singers are selected through an extensive audition process that includes sight singing, ear training, and range testing. This award winning group travels and competes each year as part of the FHS Music Department spring trip.

Select Ladies Ensemble

The Select Ladies Ensemble is an auditioned treble choir of approximately 28 students. The ensemble performs a wide variety of music written especially for treble voices. In 2010-11 the Select Ladies Ensemble was the Blue Ribbon Chorus for Fairfax High School, receiving superior ratings at festival (performance assessment) on level 5 & 6 music. The ensemble was also recognized as the Choral Grand Champion at this year's Windy City Classic choral competition which took place in Chicago on March 26th.

Fairfax Chorale

The Fairfax Chorale is an auditioned mixed ensemble of approximately 48 students. This ensemble performs traditional level 3, 4, & 5 choral music. Students in chorale focus on the development of musicianship skills, vocal technique, and rehearsal etiquette. Members of the chorale perform on four major concerts per year and have the opportunity to audition for All-District and All-Virginia chorus.

Women's Ensemble

The Women's Ensemble is the entry level choral ensemble for girls at Fairfax High School. This ensemble performs traditional level 3 & 4 choral music for treble voices. Students in chorale focus on the development of musicianship skills, vocal technique, and rehearsal etiquette. Members of the chorale perform on four major concerts per year and have the opportunity to audition for All-District and All-Virginia chorus.

Rockin' Rebels & Fairfax Fame

Rockin' Rebels & Fairfax Fame are extra-curricular ensembles selected through a competitive audition process each fall. Rockin' Rebels specializes in the performance of a cappella style arrangements of popular songs. Fairfax Fame is a show choir which performs Broadway and jazz numbers with a strong emphasis on choreography.
